HELPING OUR VETERANS THRIVE

2016 Cowlitz Expo and Stand Down

What a GREAT Success!!

The Cowlitz Co Veteran Expo & Stand Down team would like to thank every one who helped make this event such a great success.  To all of our sponsors & volunteers, who truly stepped up to the plate this year, you are amazing!

With the high level of lead detected in the Longview Armory and the 3 month, Oct - Dec, bathroom remodel, it was a given.  We needed to change the location.  The new facility proved to be a smart choice!  Although a few have stated it was confusing and people showed up at the armory, we consulted with the full time staff at the Longview Armory and they stated 'no one showed up here looking for the event and we were here for 10 hours on the 18th'.

Each one of our Veterans and family members, seeking assistance or needed questions answered, are being followed up with.  Our veterans and family members are currently receiving follow-up care & situational management.

Many who came seeking dental assistance are being managed by our local dentist.  Veterans will receive full dental care until completion, including  tooth extractions, partials, root canals, fillings, cosmetic dentistry & more.  This will be at no cost to the veteran.  We also had several who signed up with Annie Sullivan - Community Health Partners - Veteran Free Dental Clinic.

The needs of our homeless veterans, who attended, are being met by several amazing agencies within our county.

Preliminary breakdown of our event;

Veterans:

  • 25 where homeless
  • 29 felt they would be homeless in 12 months
  • 28 in need of food
  • 51 in need of clothing
  • 39 needed dental work
  • 30 do not have any type of health/dental insurance
  • 79 had served in a war
  • 60 had previously served in a war zone
